As I neared the end of this, I tried to think of a nice way to say, "Well, this really stinks!" Not the writing, the subject matter. But your daughter beat me to it, apparently.

As it happens, I'm partial to the dung beetle known as a scarab. It plays a role in how Carl Jung explained synchronicity. One of his patients was discussing a dream that involved a scarab when the session was interrupted by the sound of a scarab scratching at the window. Jung saw a connection between the two and called it meaningful coincidence, or synchronicity.

I enjoyed this article and, as usual, learned plenty I did not know.
