I know how you feel about that "civilized nation" thing. In history's eyes, things don't look too good right now. And maybe they never have when you look at Hiroshima, Manifest Destiny, and slavery to name just a few. But I have to hold onto that "civilized" notion, at least as far as our principles are concerned. I suspect that you do, too. But I get where you're coming from.
