It's a tough one. That's for sure. And the current political polarization doesn't help at all. I was motivated to write the piece because I was struck by the shooter's desire to live. It got me wondering what I would do if the decision to execute him rested with me alone. That's when I realized that we have a collective resonsibility to consider how a civilized nation should treat the issue. The question is really rhetorical, I guess, since "collective" seems to be heading down the drain at the moment. Thanks for reading and sharing your thoughts.
