Jan, the very idea of this film depresses me. It seems to me the filmmakers are pushing the idea of civil war into collective consciousness. Once we imagine this scenario, how far can we be from stepping into it. Dunst would argue that this is a cautionary tale. This could happen if we don't stop with the polarization. I get it, I get it. But still. Why go there?
Fortunately, your wonderful piece provides a reasonable antidote to the dystopian future the film imagines. Viktor Frankl's book was a game changer for me at a critical point in my life. But I hope people don't look to him for a anodyne after the unthinkable. Man's Search for Meaning offers so many wise insights into how we can all live happier healthier lives.
Thanks for much for balancing the hysteria of Civil War with the healthy common sense of Frankl's great work.
