This is exactly the kind of grounded call to action we need right now. You’ve reminded me that France has a particular appeal for African Americans since many say their US passport provides a level of security they don’t always feel in the states.

But I have decided to stay because I don’t want to throw in the towel just yet. You’ve reminded me that reading, writing, and living our values may not only be the best revenge but the path toward victory in future. Thanks so much for this wonderful essay, M. J.
