This is quite an important point. The change is a subtle one but no less significant because of that. Over the years, I have often dismissed my own presence in previously all-white spaces as negligible. But after years of denial born of an unwillingness to tout my own achievements in those places, I now see the truth of what you say here. Thanks for pointing it out in such a well-written essay.
