This reminds me of what happened with The Sellout, Paul Beatty's satirical novel about a 20th-century, pot-smoking Black man who wants to bring back slavery. It was rejected 18 times. But when he submitted it to a UK publisher, it was not only published but won The Booker Prize. Lots of stories like this, I suppose. But I love every one. I didn't know this about Sebold's book. Thanks.
